Hello blog world! This particular post has been a very long time coming and I can’t even begin to contain my excitement for what I’m about to share with you all. Before I make the big announcement, I have to give you all a little bit of a backstory…
The Beginning
Truth be told – I wasn’t born with a camera in my hand (shocker, right!?). In fact, in the grand timeline of life, I’ve only been a “photographer” for about 6 years now ramping up what started as a hobby to a growing and thriving business. Before I started taking photos of newborns, families, and weddings, I always knew I had an interest in photography. I was the girl in college with a photo collage covering my ENTIRE dorm wall documenting all of my life’s precious moments leading up to that point. I took photos of everything. It was just a natural decision when I picked up my first DSLR camera to bring my photo-taking to the next level!
I had my first client back in college while I still lived with my parents. I wanted to build up my portfolio so that maybe one day I could actually make a little money on the side with something that I just adored doing. After a while of doing free photos and learning so much along the way, I booked my first client and I was over-the-moon excited!
This began my passion (and straight-up addiction) of taking photos to capture moments in time and making people happy through those frozen frames.
The Early Growth
Before I knew it, I had a website, a portfolio, and was booking clients on a light basis (while still working full-time at a hospital back home). I thought, “Heck – maybe I can make this passion into something I can live off of!”. Business was steady and I had a few people recommend I make the leap to full-time. However, I never pursued this option because I was in a serious relationship and didn’t want to commit to a business venture when I could possibly be moving across the country for my future-husband’s job.

…Then Everything Changed
Cue the engagement ring, the wedding, annnnnnd moving halfway across the state to live with my hubby. Don’t get me wrong – it was the best thing that ever happened to me – but it also meant that I would lose most of my client base that I worked relentlessly for several years to gain AND that I would have to start over in new location. By God’s grace, I completely reworked my brand and discovered what kinds of photos I loved to take. I found myself. But finding yourself doesn’t pay the bills, so I worked on rebuilding my business while working full-time.
I also had some amazing inspiration along this journey. Lucky for me, there’s an insanely talented and wildly successful photographer I look up to, and she just so happens to be my husband’s sister! My sister-from-another-mister/sister-in-law owns Melissa Oholendt Photography , based in Minneapolis. She has been on the same journey and felt the same pains and stresses I have felt. I knew I had an amazing mentor who had my back every step of the way. Her support gave me a huge motivation boost and added to the belief that I COULD DO THIS.
My business started growing quickly in the second half of 2014 and by the time this 2015 came around, I was regularly booking sessions. Fast forward to today and my business has grown to the point where this lady needed to make a decision – balance the comfort of a regular paycheck and benefits with my exeedingly busy business, OR make the jump and commit to photography and running a business full-time…
The Leap Of Faith
I’m beyond happy to announce that “Operation Leap-Of-Faith” has commenced and in just one short week I will become a full-time photographer!!! This is literally a dream come true for me, and I am so unbelievably thankful to my friends, my family, my wonderful clients who I adore, and most importantly to God for blessing and providing for me to the point where this was even an option at all.
I can’t wait to share some of the big changes coming to Elizabeth Moore Photography in the coming days, so keep your eyes peeled. You all are the reason I do this photography “thang” and I wish I could thank you all for everything you’ve done for me.
Much love!
