Today is a HUGE day. Today I’m celebrating exactly 1 year since I broke free of my regular full-time job, and took a leap of faith into my photography business as my full-time passion!
To say the last year has been a roller coaster ride, both personally and professionally, would be an understatement. But I’m happy to say that I can now look back and say that I’m absolutely better off now than I was just one year ago!
The journey wasn’t easy. To fully trust in God and believe that He will provide for you is something I’ve always done. But up until one year ago, I had a full-time regular job that would support me with my photography business on the side. To actually make the jump was SO scary, but God has continued to be the provider in my life!
But it didn’t come with just relying on God. It required a lot of work, perseverance, and the drive that I wanted to make this business work for me because it is my whole-hearted passion! I fully believe this is what I was always meant to do with my life – meeting amazing people and capturing perfect memories for couples, families, and individuals!
I’ve blogged about my journey before, and I hope it gives someone out there the inspiration to go for it!
Over the last year, I’ve tried branching out and making new connections. It has been a beautiful thing for me to connect and mingle with like-minded individuals that run creative small-businesses like myself. These amazing people I’ve met have been inspirations to me, picking me up when I’m feeling down about my business, and joining me in my celebrations of success!
In the last year, I also made it a point to be more vulnerable. To take criticism and denial and learn how to be better. I have now focused many of my efforts into the wedding world by doing numerous styled shoots, making mistakes with those styled shoots, and learning how to be denied from leading publications because my work just “wasn’t what they were looking for”.
However, through those denials and mistakes, I became a stronger photographer because of it. I learned and studied different techniques and applied those to other shoots, helping me get published in a few leading national wedding blogs like Ruffled, Glamour and Grace, Borrowed & Blue, among others. It’s an amazing feeling!
I’ve also been able to re-brand my business completely, allowing me to make my “look” stretch far and wide through all of my work, no matter what outlet it’s published on!
Check out my blog from last week about my re-brand process here!
Here’s to another year in the biz! I hope it’s full of wonder and blessings that this year brought!
